Le 27 septembre 1900, Pablo Picasso, âgé de 19 ans, arrive à Paris pour s'y établir. Il y demeurera un demi-siècle, changeant plusieurs fois d'adresse et d'atelier, du Bateau-Lavoir de Montmartre au grenier des Grands-Augustins à Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
Si la suite de l'histoire s'écrit dans le sud de la France, entre Vallauris et Mougins, c'est bien sur les bords de la Seine que le génie du peintre éclate et se déploie, des Demoiselles d'Avignon à Guernica.

On 27 September 1900, 19-year-old Pablo Picasso arrives in Paris and spends half a century there, changing his address and atelier several times, beginning with the Bateau-Lavoir in Montmartre and finally to the Grands-Augustins attic in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. From Les Demoiselles d'Avignon to Guernica, it is on the embankments of the Seine that the painter's genius bursts forth and unfolds.
